‘Bright’ schoolgirl, 15, dies after being pulled from river as devastated family pay tribute

She had been reported missing in the water at around 5am on Sunday morning

A SCHOOLGIRL, 15, has tragically died in hospital after being pulled from a river.

Imogen Cleary-Vong was rescued from Moyola River in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, yesterday.

She had been reported missing in the Castledawson waters at around 5am on Sunday morning.

Heartfelt tributes have poured in for the teenager, who was a pupil at Saint Mary’s Grammar School in Magherafelt.

A devastated family member shared on social media: "Thoughts are with my niece Pauline Cleary-Vong and Michael Vong on such a tragic loss of their beautiful Angel."

A death notice on McCusker Bros Funeral Directors read: "Cleary-Vong (Castledawson) 2nd February 2025 Suddenly.

"Imogen R.I.P. 9 Riverside South, beloved daughter of Michael and Pauline, loving sister of Dylan and Cody."

It added: Imogen's death is "deeply regretted by her father, mother, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family circle and friends".

Castledawson councillor Denise Johnston paid tribute to the schoolgirl and said the tragedy was "a shock" to the community.

She told the : "She was such a bright, intelligent young girl, who had so much to live for.

"For her parents, they will be living every parent's nightmare, losing their only daughter.

"No-one can quite believe such a beautiful young life has been lost in such tragic circumstances."
