BRITS are bracing for heavy downpours and strong gales as Met Office maps show a band of rain barrelling across the country in just hours.
The forecaster said Monday will be mostly dry in England and Wales with sunshine in places once low cloud and fog has cleared.

But eastern England will see light showers and it is expected to be windy in Scotland and Northern Ireland with coastal gales and occasional rain.
Tonight will see periods of heavy rain across Northern Ireland and Scotland spreading into northern England and west Wales later, the Met Office added.
By Tuesday a band of rain moves east across England and Wales, though it will stay dry in eastern England until the evening.
Brighter spells and heavy showers will be seen further north.

Meteorologist Kathryn Chalk said: "It will be a largely fine, dry day across much of England and Wales through Monday.
"But turning increasingly wet and windy in the northwest so a chilly and bright start out there across the southeast of England.
"We'll see this cloud across central parts of England and the south moving its way through so turning cloudier through the afternoon.
"Behind that some hazy spells of sunshine across parts of Wales and the southwest of England but turning increasingly unsettled across Northern Ireland and western parts of Scotland.

"Some strong winds coming through as well as coastal gales with gusts of 50 to 60mph and some very heavy spells of rain moving through.
"As for temperatures, actually here we'll see the highest temperatures so highs of up to 10 or 11°C.

"As we got through Monday evening then heavy spells of rains and strong winds will further move into Northern Ireland and much of Scotland and northern England."
It comes after Storm Éowyn brought very strong winds and heavy rain to parts of the UK.
The highest gust of 100mph at Drumalbin in Scotland was the eleventh highest maximum gust since the Met Office started naming storms in 2015.
More than 100,000 properties were left without power, with further disruption caused by road and rail closures, fallen trees and damage to buildings.
Another low-pressure system then moved in bringing yellow warnings for rain and wind.
The system was named as Storm Herminia by the Spanish Meteorological Service with more significant impacts seen in Spain and France.
The system did not meet the criteria to be named by the Met Office’s storm naming group, which includes Met Eireann and KNMI.
