A PRIVATE school teacher has been banned from the profession for lying about her qualifications and spending an “inappropriate amount of time” with two pupils.

Siobhan McHugh, 32, claimed to have a medical degree to land a job as a biology teacher at £10,000-a-term Haileybury near Hertford.

The National College for Teaching and Leadership heard she was alone with an 11-year-old in a lab and failed to distance herself from a “clingy” pupil at a ceilidh.

McHugh was also acting as a pitchside medic for the girls’ rugby team — which put them at risk, the panel ruled.

She was fired over concerns after eight months.

The school’s director of external relations Donna Cresswell said: “Ms McHugh ceased to be employed by the college in May 2016.

“Haileybury took quick and appropriate action when routine procedures highlighted cause for concern.

“Pupil wellbeing has always been and remains Haileybury’s top priority.”

Haileybury was founded in 1862 as the Haileybury Imperial Service College.
