THERESA May is taking a five-day break in Snowdonia as the West slips deeper towards conflict with Russia over Syria.

The PM and her husband Philip are trekking around the hills of North Wales – a country she visits every year to “get out and about and see scenery, to clear your mind and your thinking”.

She visited a craft shop in Dolgellau, Gwynedd over the weekend and won’t return to London until later in the week

Speaking about her love of Wales last month on a visit to Cardiff, the PM said: “We stay in a hotel and try to walk every day.

“Walking is about relaxing, getting exercise and fresh air.”

The Sun today reported how the PM picked up a £32 silver ring after a crafty bit of bargain hunting.

She was spotted wearing one of two rings from the Celf Aran Arts shop, before a service at St Mary’s Church in Gwyndd, North Wales.

“I honestly thought it was a joke” jeweller Anna Hicks, 54, told the paper

“I’ve had famous people in here before, but a Prime Minister is really surreal and certainly a first.”

“She didn’t get a discount for being Prime Minister” joked Matt Fletcher, 38, who served her.

“When I realised it was Theresa May, I got very nervous and started to fumble with the keys for the display case.

“‘I said to her, ‘is it you?’, and she said: ‘Well, it depends on who you is.’

“She was really down to earth, nothing like Cameron or Osborne would have been.”
