The shocking details were revealed after the police presented their findings which detailed new information that has not yet been shared with the public.

The 23-year-old police officer, named only as Daniel L., is said to have killed his partner Claudia Konstantinovics, 25, and their son on 2nd October in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

During an interrogation he said he had used his police gun after smuggling it out of the station, and after killing the pair he had driven them hundreds of miles to the Austrian state of Styria where he had buried their bodies in a wood, cops said.

Daniel L. said that after shooting Claudia, he then strangled their one-year-old son Noah, who was in the next room, shoving the two bodies in the boot of his car and three days later driving to Styria.

Before the killings, he is said to have looked on the internet searching for "the perfect murder" and "inconspicuous corpse removal".

Police investigators had assumed based on analysis of his WhatsApp data that he killed Konstantinovic while she was asleep.

But no traces to back up this claim could be found at the murder scene.

Daniel L. has said during interrogations that he instead killed his girlfriend around noon while they were arguing.

He said that on the day of the murders he had wanted to end the relationship and that they had argued before he shot her.

Daniel L. had been working with the Vienna state police department since 1st January 2016.

He originally reported his girlfriend and son as missing and told police that they had left the flat together taking a bag of the tot's clothes with her, and he had not seen her since.

His girlfriend, originally from Klagenfurt, was six months pregnant at the time of the killing.

A friend of hers wrote an appeal on Facebook, asking people to help find her.

Two days later, the cop called his boss to say that he was sick and drove to his parents’ house in Styria. He buried the two corpses in a meadow, not far from the his old familial home.

When police searched the couple’s flat in Vienna for clues as to the whereabouts of the missing woman they found traces of blood.

The suspect was arrested in Styria and confessed shortly after.

Daniel L.’s colleagues described him as friendly and committed to his job and said they were stunned by the news.

The prosecutor's office is now drafting the official indictment, with a trial set to take place before the summer according to local media.
