Mystery as dead body is found on popular UK beach leaving cops baffled as they probe ‘unexplained’ death

A BODY has tragically been found at a popular beach in a UK holiday hot spot.

Devon and Cornwall Police has confirmed it is treating the incident as "unexplained".

Officers were called at around 1.50pm on Saturday, January 18, to the discovery of a person's body.

It was found on Downderry Beach, near Looe.

Police have confirmed the death is currently not thought to be suspicious but is unexplained.

Enquiries are being conducted to establish the circumstances and in the hopes of finding their next of kin.

A spokesperson said: "Police were called around 1.50pm on Saturday following the discovery of a person’s body at Downderry Beach, Torpoint.

"The death is being treated as unexplained but not currently thought suspicious.

"Enquiries are being conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding the death, the identity of the person and to trace their next of kin."
