Two dead and six injured after fire rips through residential care home in Hertfordshire

TWO people have died after a fire ripped through a residential care home in Hertfordshire.
The blaze on Cadmore Lane in Cheshunt has also left six people injured.
The fire service rescued 33 people from the building who are now being looked after at an emergency reception centre nearby.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and no arrests have been made.
Hertfordshire County Council released a statement today that read: “Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue were called at 5.51am to a fire at a residential care home in Cadmore Lane, Cheshunt.

"Firefighters were faced with an extremely fierce fire that was well established in the first floor and the roof of the building, which has since collapsed.
"33 residents were rescued and firefighters worked closely with police and ambulance colleagues to evacuate them to a nearby emergency reception centre.
"Sadly, we can confirm that two people died in the fire and we would like to offer our sympathies to their families.
Hertfordshire County Council is working in close cooperation with Broxbourne Council and the health service to assess the needs of the evacuated residents and arrange alternative accommodation."
Fire crews from three services - Hertfordshire, Essex and London - tackled the blaze today and a fire investigation team is now understood to be at the scene.
Hertfordshire Constabulary said in a statement: “Police have been providing assistance at the scene of a large fire at a residential home in Cadmore Lane, Cheshunt, today.
“We were notified by Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service at 5.56am. Officers attended and assisted with the evacuation of the building and helped to transport residents to an emergency reception centre which was set up nearby.
“Sadly, it has now been confirmed that two people have died during the incident and our thoughts are with the families of all those affected.
“Investigations are being led by the fire service at this stage and we will continue to provide assistance where necessary.”
The Red Cross have been helping provide care to the evacuated elderly and the charity released a statement saying: "We have been supporting residents, family members and staff who were affected by the fire at the care home in Cheshunt this morning.
"Providing practical and emotional support at the rest centre, as well as providing mobility aids, such as wheelchairs, to residents. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the two people who sadly died in the fire."
