Is this the proof Syrian butcher Bashar al-Assad ordered chemical weapons attack on Syrian women and children?
Pictures from the Shayrat air field targeted by US missile strikes appear to show chemical weapons storage barrels
BASHAR al-Assad's chemical arsenal was pictured in shocking images emerging from the airbase devastated by US air strikes, it is claimed.
Pictures released by Russia news agencies show catastrophic damage to the Shayrat Airbase - which was attacked by US tomahawk rockets in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Among them are photos of dozens or barrels, alleged to store Assad's chemical weaponry.
Russian social media accounts have since highlighted the similarities between the containers and those previously pictured at Russian chemical weapons facilities.
The Shayrat base is alleged to have been used to launch an airborne sarin attack on the city of Idlib that left scores of Syrian civilians dead.
US intelligence is now considering the extent of Russian involvement in the strike.
One US source has since claimed a drone was spotted hovering over the site of the chemical attack in the following hours.
Only a few hours later a missile tore into the hospital treating the injured, leading to accusations the Syrian air force was trying to cover up the atrocity.
Moscow has since warned newly-emboldened Donald Trump that the two countries are "one step from war".
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said relations between the two nations had been completely ruined.
Vladimir Putin called the actions "an act of aggression" as it emerged the US had given Moscow prior warning of the strikes.
The war of words came after Trump launched a 59-missile attack on Russian ally Assad following the sarin attacks against civilians earlier this week.
