Parents of baby ‘scalped in Chatham dog attack’ reveal blood-soaked mauling ‘has ruined their lives’ as tot battles in hospital

She remains in hospital with serious injuries and police have released three people who were arrested over the horror attack.

The dog was shot dead by police marksmen in Chatham, Kent, on Tuesday night.

Her mum and dad Valentina and Sergei – who also have a 14-year-old daughter – said: "The incident has ruined our lives and the lives of our two children.

"We would like to thank all the emergency services and others who helped our daughter by giving first aid at the scene.

"We are also grateful for the continued support of the hospital where she is being treated."

Cops have bailed one those nicked, Michael "Mikey" Thornton , 26, until April 26.

A woman and a teenager have also been released pending further enquiries.

The trio, from the Kent town were arrested on suspicion of offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Cops say they are awaiting a post mortem to establish what breed of dog it was.

One shocked onlooker said: “It was so gruesome. The child’s scalp had been ripped off.

“Someone had to actually pick it up and take it into the ­ambulance with the child.”

Horrified neighbour Alisha Robinson, 19, told how she saw a woman retrieve the piece of Victoria’s scalp from the ground.

She said: “It was like picking a wig off the floor. It was awful.

“I kept passing towels to them to stop the blood. The girl was going blue and lost consciousness but they brought her back.”
