Terrifying 80mph ‘Devil’s Wind’ will FUEL LA wildfires this weekend with ‘biblical’ gales to bring even more devastation

A TERRIFYING 80mph "Devil's wind" is set to fuel the Los Angeles wildfires this weekend as "biblical" gales will bring more devastation.
Some 130,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes and 2,000 buildings have been burnt as the city battles five uncontrolled fires.

Firefighters are continuing to heroically battle the infernos - but the odds are now against them with the weather expected to get worse in the coming hours.
A Santa Ana wind, also known as a 'devil wind', is now forecast for Los Angeles as firefighters prepare for a long siege with the inferno.
A devil wind is where a strong, gusty, and dry wind moves east from the desert and the Sierra Nevada mountains over LA and out to the sea.
The low humidity in the air is key for fires to take hold as it dries out the vegetation around the city.

More hot, windy weather is forecast for LA at least until Tuesday.

Todd Hall, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, said winds will pick up on Thursday night and then over the weekend.

Hall told the New York Times that another period of windiness will bring 80mph on Monday and Tuesday and will "need to be watched".
The National Weather Service said there is "critical fire weather" and issued a red flag warning over the fire risk.

That runs until 6pm on Friday - during that time there is the potential for fire to rapidly spread, it says.
Unfortunately, there is no rain in the forecast.
Some 7,500 desperate firefighters are bravely trying to contain the fires and have been able to restart air drops on Wednesday after hurricane-strength gusts.
Entire neighborhoods have already been gutted with satellite photos revealing the nightmare devastation wrought on some communities.
Zev Yaroslavsky, 76, told the that he could see a big, black cloud over the LA from the Eaton fire when he went to get his paper.
He said: "It was biblical.
“The only thing I can think of that would compare with this would be a massive earthquake... except that earthquakes have an epicenter."
A devil wind usually bring gusts of up to 80mph but they can reach 100mph and it can last for days on end.
Terrifying video emerged of two LA locals and a dog in a home surrounded by flames.
With floor to ceiling glass windows, the full length of the flames can be seen just feet from his kitchen table and couch in the lounge.
Some of the flames reach several meters high and angrily flick back and forth as strong gusts blow them around.

Wind has been key for spreading fire to the 30,000 acres it has already burned.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said the Palisades fire, which began on Monday, was sparked by a backyard fire before strong winds fanned embers to neighboring areas.
With all the smoke air quality has plummeted across the city to a hazardous level - Altadena is currently seeing worse air than New Delhi.
At least three million homes and businesses across Los Angeles County are without power, according to , an electrical service company.
Some of those homes belong to celebrities, with Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Miles Teller, and Anthony Hopkins among those to lose their abodes.
Canyon Bakery owner Patrice Winter told the LA Times the fires were like "Armageddon".

He said: "That’s all I can say. What they’re showing on the news is really real; they’re not sensationalizing any of this.
"It’s what I saw with my own eyes. It rocks your world."
TV star Ricki Lake heartbroken over lost home
Talkshow host Ricki Lake has shared her heartbreak after the Palisades fire burnt down her home in Malibu.
She shared 20 touching photos of her "heaven on earth" before it had burnt down in an Instagram post.
She wrote: "It’s all gone.
"I can’t believe I am typing these words.
"After a valiant and brave effort by our friend and hero @kirbykotler_ Ross and I lost our dream home.
"This description ‘dream home’ doesn’t suffice.
"It was our heaven on earth.
"The place where we planned to grow old together.
"We never took our heavenly spot on the bluff overlooking our beloved malibu for granted, not even for one second.
"I shared our sunset views almost daily with all of you.
"This loss is immeasurable.
"It’s the spot where we got married 3 years ago.
"I grieve along with all of those suffering during this apocalyptic event.
"Praying for all of my neighbors, my friends, my community, the animals, the firefighters and first responders.
"More to share soon of how we escaped with Dolly and not much else.
"For now I grieve."
