A TOUGH teen walked half a mile to safety holding his semi-decapitated head after fighting off murderous thugs.

Livid tissue and muscle can be seen inside the gruesome wound - which is almost halfway through his neck - and flies can be crawling inside it.

Miraculously, none of the major arteries in his neck were severed.

Cops found the severely injured boy sitting by the roadside in Santa Caterina, south Brazil, on Sunday after emergency services were alerted.

Despite his horrific injuries, the teen appears calm and lucid as he explains to his rescuers what happened.

Patrik tells them he was ambushed by three bandits who stole his trainers and mobile, then left him for dead after slashing his neck with a huge blade and throwing him into a ravine in a wooded area.

The boy managed to survive by pretending to be dead and hiding in the woods overnight -all the time holding his head in place.

He said: "I made myself pass for dead, and in spite of being injured I decided to walk to ask for help because there was a chance that they would come back to finish me."

He was taken to hospital in Itajai where he underwent life-saving surgery but there have been no further updates about his health.
Police are hunting his attackers.
