WORST PARTY GUEST EVER?

Drunk reveller wrote off millionaire’s £110,000 Porsche 911 after crashing into a tree while ‘giving it a whirl’

Personal trainer Rory Shellard jailed for taking luxury motor while at house party

A PARTY guest who left a millionaire businessman £100,000 out of pocket when he took his Porsche 911 and crashed it into a TREE has been jailed.

Rory Shellard, 25, had been invited to the car owner's countryside mansion after a black tie event but took the luxury motor as he thought he would "give it a whirl".

The personal trainer then sped off down narrow single-track lanes before losing control of it while "showing off" to a friend in the early hours of May 2.

Shellard then drove to a nearby coach firm in Henley-in-Arden, Warks., where he abandoned the vehicle with his badly injured passenger still inside.

A court heard property tycoon Jody Sanders was forced to scrap the car for £16,500 after his insurance company refused to pay out when they discovered he had not declared points on his licence.

On Friday Shellard was jailed for ten months and banned from driving for three years after he pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking at Warwick Crown Court.

Prosecutor Amy Jackson said Sanders, who had bought the vehicle in February last year, had invited some fellow guests back to his £1.2 million home following a party in the Coventry area.

She added: "Then at two in the morning he had a call from his insurance company indicating that they had information that the airbags in the car had been deployed.

"He looked out of a window and saw that the car was not where he had parked it, and the car keys had gone, as had the defendant and another of his guests."

Shellard, from Bilston, West Mids., had fled the scene but was identified from DNA found on the driver's airbag.

He made no comment when he was arrested and interviewed by police.

The court head Shellard had a conviction for driving with excess alcohol and possessing cocaine in 2014, and had only got his licence back six months earlier.

Nicholas Smith, defending, said his client is a personal trainer, and had references from a number of people including his business partner, a former police officer.

He added: "I have to concede that this is one of the most serious aggravated vehicle takings one can find.

"It boils down to an extremely foolish action on the spur of the moment.”
