Pensioner arrested after British schoolgirl, 10, is sexually assaulted on family holiday in Italy
The girl managed to run back to her parents who alerted police on the Italian island of Stromboli
POLICE have arrested a pensioner after a ten-year-old British girl was sexually assaulted during a family holiday in Italy.
The terrified schoolgirl was attacked by a 78-year-old man who approached her as she played alone.
Out of eyeshot of her parents, the pensioner beckoned her over before sexually assaulting her and escaping.
The brave girl managed to run back to her parents who alerted police on the Italian island of Stromboli, off the coast of Sicily.
Prosecutor Federica Paiola said: "The girl's testimony was crucial in tracking down the culprit.
"Her description was vital and through fingerprints we managed to arrest a 78-year-old man who has been accused of sexual assault."
Police said the attack had happened last October but the pensioner had only just been arrested and was due to appear before a judge later this week.
