Who was Isabel Celis, when did ‘America’s Madeleine McCann’ disappear and where were her remains discovered?
SIX-year-old Isabel Celis was tucked into bed on April 20, 2012, never to be seen alive again.
The tragic youngster's remains have now been discovered five years after she disappeared from her home in Tuscon, Arizona.
The mysterious case sent shockwaves around the world and bore a haunting resemblance to the disappearance of Maddie McCann.
We reveal all.
Who was Isabel Celis and how did she vanish?
The six-year-old was born in August 2005 and lived in Tuscon, Arizona, with her parents Rebecca and Sergio Celis.
Her dad put her to bed on April 20, 2012, and called police the next morning when he discovered her missing.
Rebecca and Sergio can be heard frantically pleading with police to hurry up in a chilling 911 call made after Isabel's disappearance.
The desperate mum says: "I went to work this morning at 7am and I did not come and check on her, I should have come and checked on her”.
Rebecca also states she did not “hear anything at all” overnight in her home.
Sergio, who made the call, said the family has looked “everywhere” for Isabel but could not find her.
Following the discovery of her remains, Isabel's family released a statement which said: "We want to thank the community for the support they have continued to show for Isa over the years and for refusing to give up hope.
"Now is our time to mourn. We ask for privacy during this time so that we can do that."
What happened to Isabel Celis?
Despite making headlines around the world, no real progress on the case was made for five years but days ago police confirmed that human remains found in a remote area matched Isabel’s DNA.
The mysterious case bore a chilling resemblance to the disappearance of Maddie McCann.
When Isabel first vanished there were theories surrounding a suspicious entry point in the family home.
This was suggested to be her bedroom window, which may have been forced open.
Neighbours were also said to have heard male voices and the barking of a dog at about 6.30am the morning she was reported missing.
No arrests have been made and the police refused to say if there were any suspects.
Where were Isabel Celis's remains discovered?
The young girl's remains were found in a remote area of Pima County in Arizona.
The area is around 50 miles from where Isabel was last seen alive.
Police have not indicated how long the six-year-old has been dead and would go into anymore specifics about the exact location of her remains.
DNA testing revealed the remains belong to Isabel.
Chief Chris Magnus would not say how police were led to the spot a month ago where the remains were found, except to say it was not "happenstance".
