Two boys, 16 & 17, killed after car ‘failed to stop for police’ before crashing into tree during early hours

Two teenagers have died after a car "failed to stop" for police and crashed into a tree.

The two boys, aged 17 and 16, were travelling with three other teenagers when the horror crash took place.

Their motor struck hit a tree in Grove Lane, Handsworth, just after 2am on Thursday - killing two of the passengers.

The three other teenagers were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, with cops saying “nothing could be done to save him”.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has begun an investigation into the incident.

Police have asked anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision to contact them via 101 or Live Chat quoting log number 183 of December 19.

Cops had put in a cordon while they carried out their investigations.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A second teenager has sadly died following a collision in Handsworth in the early hours of this morning.

"The 16-year-old boy was in a car which failed to stop for police before hitting a tree in Grove Lane just after 2am.
