ED'S ECO DRIVE

Fury as Ed Miliband says it’s ‘completely logical’ to say energy bills will come down in dash to Net Zero

The rush to hit the targets will affect people’s cars, their boilers and their energy bills, the Tories said

ED MILIBAND came under fire last night for saying it’s “completely logical” to say energy bills will come down in the dash to Net Zero.

The Energy Secretary has previously pledged he would be able to save consumers £300 as part of the government’s clean energy drive.

His intervention came as he said the green action taken so far by the government, including decarbonising the electricity grid by 2030, was “just the beginning”.

The coming months will see the government also unveil an updated plan to meet its carbon budget - which places a restriction on the total amount of greenhouse gases it can emit.

He also told MPs he is “very sympathetic” over calls for all new homes to have solar panels installed on the roof, saying: “Watch this space.”

But the rush to hit the targets will affect people’s cars, their boilers and their energy bills, the Tories said.

Shadow Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho: “Ed Miliband promised to cut people’s energy bills by £300, but instead is leaving pensioners in the cold this winter.

“He’ll make the country poorer, send industry fleeing, and leave taxpayers with a colossal bill.

"We only produce 1% of global emissions, yet Ed will make us a warning not an example for the rest of the world.”
