Boy rushed to hospital after shock attack by classmate at primary school as staff launch immediate probe

The school said the attack was a 'one-off' and the two pupils had 'no known history of conflict'

A BOY has been rushed to hospital after a random attack by a classmate at primary school.

Staff have launched an "immediate probe" into the attack at Mere Green Primary School in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham.

It is understood a pupil was attacked after the school bell rang at around 3.30pm on Tuesday, December 3.

The boy suffered" potentially serious injuries" and was raced to hospital by paramedics.

In a statement, the school said the attack was a "one-off" and the two pupils had "no known history of conflict".

The school said: "We can confirm an incident occurred which represented a breach of our behaviour policy and resulted in sanctions.

"We followed the procedures set out in our safeguarding and behavioural policies."

A spokesperson added: "This included calling West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"The school also launched an immediate investigation, speaking to the children involved as well as their families and to staff, to properly understand the circumstances behind the incident.

"This established there was no known history of conflict between the two children.

"It was a one-off incident. There is no indication it represented a pattern of bullying.

"We have also been carrying out the necessary risk assessments and have been in contact with the families of both children and continue to have an open dialogue with them.

"Mere Green Primary School is committed to preventing bullying and creating a safe and inclusive environment for all students.

"It has set protocols in place to deal with incidents like this when they happen."
