Scam artist ‘netted £1m hidden across 137 bank accounts after flogging non-existent TVs and computers on Amazon’

Dad James Symons duped 2,000 buyers after touting high-end electronic gear at bargain prices

A DAD flogged non-existent TVs and computers on Amazon and raked in more than £1million from 2,000 buyers he duped.

James Symons, 31, touted high-end electronic gear at knockdown prices for 2½ years, even boasting of “guaranteed Christmas delivery”.

Purchases never arrived, the Old Bailey heard. Amazon was left having to reimburse £1,110,964 to customers.

Symons, of Box, Wilts, was found to have 137 bank accounts.

He pleaded guilty to fraud and was jailed for two years and eight months.

Judge Anuja Dhir QC told the married father of one: “You didn’t have a moment’s thought for the effect your behaviour had on others.”

"Over all the amount you receive was more than £1.1 million, but the impact of this fraud couldn't be measured in money alone.

"Through Amazon, hundreds of people ordered electronic items before Christmas with a pre-Christmas delivery promise.

"Little did they know that you had no intention what so ever of supplying the items."
