Two schools ‘locked down’ after stabbing as victim rushed to hospital – with four arrested over ‘attempted murder’

The four arrested include a 17-year-old girl

TWO schools have been "locked down" after a man was stabbed - with four arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The victim, in his 40s, was rushed to hospital from the scene in Tyldesley, in Greater Manchester at around 8.50am today.

Fred Longworth High School shared a message with parents stating students would not be allowed off site while the incident remained ongoing.

It said: "GMP is advising that all local schools and wider community may operate as normal.

"Therefore, school will close at the usual time and students will be released as normal. GMP will ensure that there is a police presence in and around the area of the incident this evening to provide reassurance.

There were two cordons put in place, one in the Manchester Road area of Tyldesley and another on Tyldesley Road, in Atherton.

Police have confirmed the two cordons are linked.

Chief Inspector Adam Wignall from GMP's Wigan district said: “I would like to reassure the local community that this is an isolated incident with no wider threat to the general public.

“We have arrested four individuals, and we continuing to piece together the full circumstances that led to this incident taking place. Our officers will remain in the area today over the weekend, providing reassurance and they will be happy to assist with any queries you may have.

“I would urge anyone with any information about this incident to please get in touch.

"This could include CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage from around the time of the incident and captures something that looks suspicious.”
