Tragedy as mum killed & daughter injured when car mounted curb just days before Christmas

Her daughter was also taken to hospital but her condition is not life-threatening

COPS have issued an appeal for witnesses after a tragic collision killed a mum in Essex yesterday evening.

Her 23-year-old daughter was also injured in the crash, which took place just before 5:30pm in the Westcliff area.

Cops were called to reports of a collision between a car and two pedestrians at the junction of Hamlet Court Road and St John's road.

The woman and her daughter were both taken to hospital and despite the best efforts of medical professionals the 52-year-old has since died.

Her daughter's condition is not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The driver of a black Suzuki Splash was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Aged 31, she remains in custody for questioning while the woman's family are being supported by specialist officers.

The local Labour Party took to Facebook to share a tribute to the mother.
