Woke university bosses ban staff from saying ‘Christmas break’ over fears it will offend snowflake students

Toby Young of the Free Speech Union says the university needs to be reminded 'Britain is still a Christian country'

UNIVERSITY staff have been asked not to say “Christmas break” over fears it will offend snowflake students.

Instead, they should use the term “winter break” to be more inclusive.

The Newcastle University diktat also suggests Easter break become “spring break”.

Its 20-page guide claims the changes will have “a positive impact as non-religious terms make the calendar more inclusive and sensitive to a diverse range of beliefs”.

But Toby Young, of the Free Speech Union, said: “Newcastle University needs to be reminded that Britain is still a Christian country and we still celebrate Christian festivals.

“Does inclusion not apply to Christians?”

A university spokeswoman said: “We have renamed the breaks to reflect the seasons and be more inclusive of our diverse community of students and staff.”

In August, the university sparked outrage when it asked employees to avoid “patronising and gendered terms such as girls, pet or ladies”.

Bosses suggested avoidance of "patronising and gendered terms" such as "girls, pet or ladies" in a guide on inclusive language.

The guide said: "Language is always evolving, and it is important to be mindful of any trends.

"Language can also be individualised - what one person finds acceptable, another may find inappropriate in certain contexts."

A string of other universities have also banned phrases they believe could be deemed as offensive by some students.
