Four people ‘sprayed with substance’ on UK university campus sparking huge lockdown with attacker on the loose

A manhunt is ongoing after one of the victims was rushed to hospital with head injuries

FOUR people have been "sprayed with an unknown substance" at a university - sparking a lockdown on campus.

Police rushed to the University of Greenwich shortly after midnight after reports a man had been "attacked".

The victim was treated for head injuries before being rushed to hospital.

Three other people were also sprayed with a substance, police have said.

Their injuries are not thought to be life-changing or life-threatening.

A manhunt is underway, with cops confirming no arrests have yet been made.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "On Tuesday, police were called to Avery Hill Road, SE9, at 12.13am following reports that a man had been attacked and sprayed with an unknown substance.

"Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service who treated a man for head injuries on scene before taking him to hospital.

"Whilst conducting enquiries on scene, officers found that three other people were sprayed with the substance.

"Tests were carried out and it was found that the substance was non-toxic. None of the victims suffered any life-changing/threatening injuries.

"At this early stage, there have been no arrests and urgent enquiries are on-going. A crime scene remains in place."

A spokesman for the University added: "We can confirm we are assisting the police following an incident last night at our Avery Hill campus.

"The entrance to the campus was closed briefly, but has now re-opened.

“We can confirm that none of those injured in the incident were University of Greenwich Students.”
