Tragedy as body found in search for missing woman, 33, who vanished over weekend

Cops confirmed a tragic discovery was made this morning in the South Shields area

A BODY has been found in the search for a missing woman who vanished over the weekend.

Rachael Bowman, 33, was last seen in the Cowgate area of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, at around 3.30pm yesterday.

Her sister Sarah Bowman shared a heartbreaking appeal on social media in which she wrote: "Please Rach, we need you home."

Cops confirmed a tragic discovery was made this morning in the South Shields area.

Formal identification has taken place and Rachael’s family are being supported by specialist officers.

Northumbria Police said they do not believe there was any third-party involvement.

A spokesperson for the force said: "A body has sadly been found in the search for missing woman Rachael Bowman.

"We carried out extensive enquiries alongside partners to locate her.

"Sadly, a body was found in the South Shields area earlier this morning.

"Formal identification has taken place and Rachael’s next of kin have been notified and are currently being supported by specialist officers.

"This is an extremely sad conclusion to our investigation.

"We would like to thank everyone who helped in the search for Rachael by sharing appeals and providing information on possible sightings.

"We do not believe there to be any third-party involvement and a report will be prepared for the coroner."
