Map reveals England’s WORST schools with low GCSE pass rates and poor progress – does your kids’ make the list?

THE worst performing secondary schools in England can be revealed.

Using data released by the Government, the Sun has created an interactive map showing those listed in the bottom 20.

It must be noted, the list is based only on schools where data was available - many special and independent schools, as well as certain academies, are not included.

The ranking is based on the schools' Progress 8 score, as well as overall GCSE performance.

Those at the bottom saw zero percent of pupils achieve Grade 5 or above in English and Maths GCSEs.

The score shows how much progress pupils at each school made between the end of the key stage 2 and the end of the key stage 4.

This is based on results in up to 8 qualifications, which include English, Maths, 3 English Baccalaureate qualifications, including sciences, computer science, history, geography and languages, as well as 3 other additional approved qualifications.

Key stage 4 is the final two years of school in England for students aged 14-16, typically years 10 and 11.

Currently ranked bottom is Europa School UK in Culham, Oxfordshire, which scored "well below average" with -3.84.

Founded in 1978, it is one of 14 European Schools and the only one in Britain.

An academy, it provides an education to the children of staff working for the European Atomic Energy Community.

47 pupils out of 53 were included in the data.

The rest of the bottom five was rounded out with Cumbria Academy for Autism Well (-3.76); Kenwood Academy (-3.73); The Courtyard Islington (*progress score -3.2); Barnsley College (*progress score -3.2).

Schools marked with *progress score are those which started educating pupils partway through the 5-year period covered by Progress 8, which should be taken into account.

According to the Government website: "A negative progress score does not mean pupils made no progress, or the school has failed, rather it means pupils in the school made less progress than other pupils across England with similar results at the end of key stage 2."

It goes onto say: "Some schools start educating pupils partway through the 5-year period covered by Progress 8, which should be taken into account when comparing their results with schools that start at Key Stage 3.

"Progress 8 is not the most appropriate performance measure for university technical colleges, studio schools and some further education colleges.

"These establishments typically start educating pupils at age 14, with a focus on preparing pupils for their future careers by providing an integrated academic and professional education.

"Other headline measures, particularly pupil destinations, are more important for these establishments."

The top performing school in the ranking is Michaela Community School, which is marked as "well above average" with a score of 2.55.

It also saw 95.7 of its pupils achieve a Grade 5 or above in English and Maths GCSEs.

The rest of the top five includes: Mercia School (2.09); Tauheedul Islam Girls' High School (2.05); Eden Boys' School, Birmingham (1.59).
