A MASSIVE inferno ripped through a Brit-favourite water park in Costa Del Sol after a slide went up in flames.
The blaze broke out during renovation works, with plumes of thick black smoke visible for miles.
The gargantuan fire began at a slide called the Speed Racer – leading to an unbelievable inferno.
The fire brigade believes it was caused by a spark during welding work.
No injuries have been reported – but the material damage is said to be extensive.
The Speed Racer – described by the water park as “enclosed aqua tube slides” that transform into an “eight-lane high-speed multi-racer slide” – was completely destroyed.
Firefighters were dispatched to Aqualand in Torremolinos, Benalmádena, and Málaga.
It took them about an hour to put out the inferno, whose column of smoke was visible for miles along the Costa del Sol.
Traffic jams were reported as drivers slowed down to gawp at the disaster.
The emergency services received about 50 calls in connection with the blaze.
The renovation work was being carried out to coincide with Aqualand’s 40th anniversary.
The Speed Racer is located opposite the park’s star, Kamikaze, which, at 72ft, is the highest water slide in Europe.
The Kamikaze attraction is also due to be renovated, as reported by .
Torremolinos is popular with British holidaymakers, with more than 10,000 visitors in February alone.
Mayor, Margarita del Cid, wrote on social media: “Everyone worked together to quickly control the fire, which is now being put out, with no reported personal or material damage outside the premises.”
An investigation into the blaze is reportedly underway.
