Illegal immigrant already deported five times found living in UK again

AN illegal immigrant already deported five times has been found living in the UK again.

Lithuanian Audrius Verkauskas was first removed in November 2015.

But he has continued to return and was also deported in February 2019, June 2021, May 2022 and August last year.

Police arrested him for unrelated matters in April in Peterborough — and then discovered he was in breach of his deportation.

Verkauskas, 44, was this week jailed for two years at the city’s crown court after pleading guilty to immigration charges.

He will be deported for a sixth time once he has served his sentence.

PC Tom Todd from Cambridgeshire Police said: “I hope this case sends out a strong message that people found to be in breach of deportation orders will be found eventually.

“Verkauskas knew full well he was illegally in Britain and had flouted the order multiple times so it is not surprising he has been handed a jail term.”

In October, The Sun revealed more illegal migrants were in Britain than any other European nation.

Researchers believes as many as 745,000 were still here — enough to rival the population of Leeds.

The number was equivalent to one in 100 of the entire UK population and more than ­double the 300,000 in France.

It is also ahead of the highest estimate for Germany, which at 700,000 has the second-largest illegal population.

The landmark research was compiled by 18 institutions, including Oxford University’s Compas migration study centre.

Study chiefs estimated the number of illegal migrants in Britain as between 594,000 and 745,000.
