On June 28, 1992 - aged just 32 - she went for an unaccompanied stroll around the grounds of Friern Barnet Hospital. The first since her admission.

Four hours later, her body was found near a bin area with multiple stab wounds and strangulation marks.

A postmortem later confirmed her cause of death was the latter, with evidence of "overkill", referring to excessive or gratuitous violence.

Daniel's dad was the only suspect cops pursued, but after a trial he was found not guilty in June 1993.

The court heard witness testimonies were found to be inconsistent.

One person believed they saw Daniel's father near the hospital on the day of the murder.

Another said it might have been the day before.

Daniel, now 33 but just a year old at the time of his mum's death, was sent to live with his grandmother Lily Wing, who was 60 at the time.

Writing for Metro, he said of Tina: "In all truth, it’s taken me reaching the same age she was to really understand my grief.

"It’s something I describe as ambiguous loss, because it’s unconventional and unclear.

"Aside from not getting to know my mum, my grief was complicated because my mum was murdered and we’ve never had justice for her."

DOCUMENTARY

Five years ago, Daniel was at an event and met the head of a TV channel.

This led to a two-part documentary 'Who Murdered You, Mum?'

On the first day of filming, Daniel discovered his estranged dad was not only still alive, but was living in London and had a wife and two other children.

On the second day he was able to visit the apartment complex where he and his mum lived before she was admitted, as well as the grounds where she was killed.

During the documentary, Daniel talks to members of the Metropolitan Police to try and understand why his father was acquitted.

Prior to being admitted, Tina was found walking the streets barefoot in just a nightdress in the middle of winter.

Daniel's dad had reportedly told police she tried to set fire to his cot, something she denied.

Tina was remanded at Holloway prison before being moved to Friern Barnet.

Her mental health was improving massively just prior to her death.

Daniel was 10 when he was first told she had died by his auntie Lesley.

“I was numb to it at the time. After they explained it, my aunt remembered me just asking, ‘Can I go play now?’ I was just a kid, detached from the loss,” he told .

He is now appealing for anyone who may have information to come forward.

“I feel like my mother was let down,” Daniel said.

“She wasn’t the ‘perfect victim’ due to her struggles but I don’t want her to be forgotten. She has been forgotten for 32 years.”

He added: “The police need compelling evidence to move forwards. I’m hoping someone might come forward."
