Man, 23, arrested over ‘hit-and-run murder’ of mum, 25, ‘rammed off e-bike by Land Rover crash’

A MAN has been arrested over the suspected hit-and-run murder of a mum who was rammed off an e-bike.

Alana Armstrong, 25, died at the scene of the smash in Pleasley, Derbyshire, on November 26, when she was knocked off by an alleged Land Rover Discovery.

The dark-coloured vehicle followed two electric bikes before ramming one of them - causing the rider and passenger to fall off, say cops.

It then drove off from the scene without stopping in an alleged hit-and-run.

Alana, who had a six-year-old son, was riding pillion on the bike and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 23-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Cops nicked the man in Mansfield during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Steve Shaw said: “We are now nearly a week on from Alana’s death and the response from the public has been nothing short of fantastic.

“We have received information from dozens of people which has been absolutely crucial to bringing about this arrest.

“We still want to hear from anyone who has not already come forward with information that can assist our investigation which you can do in confidence to the force, or completely anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers.”

A £20k reward is being offered for anyone who can provide the force with more information.

Det Inspec Shaw added: “Today independent charity Crimestoppers has offered an enhanced reward of £20k and I would urge anyone with information to come forward, whether to the force or Crimestoppers to help us find the driver of the Land Rover.

“I know there are people in and around the Pleasley and wider Mansfield areas that have information that can help – and you can do so anonymously through Crimestoppers.”

It comes after a woman in her 30s was arrested in connection with the incident on Friday, but has since been bailed.

Over the weekend, Derbyshire Police also located the offending vehicle, a blue Land Rover Discovery - which is now being forensically examined.

It is believed a man was driving the car while a woman sat in the front passenger seat.

The rider of the bike, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he had to have his leg amputated below the knee.

He currently remains in hospital.
