TK Maxx raises eyebrows by putting £2 Primark T-shirt on sale for £32 – but is all as it seems?

The T-shirt's tag even claimed the budget top had been REDUCED from £39.99

AN eagle-eyed shopper noticed budget shop TK Maxx was flogging a Primark T-shirt - for SIXTEEN TIMES its value.

The grey men's Cedarwood T-shirt usually flies off the shelves of the high street giant for £2.

But designer outlet TK Maxx priced the top at a whopping £32 - even claiming it had been REDUCED from £39.99.

Above the reduced sticker, the top's recommended retail price was marked up as £109.

The secret shopper, who wished to remain anonymous, tweeted: "oh @TKMaxx_UK why are you selling Primark t shirts for £32? You're fooling no one."

After the item was shown to staff at the store, it was revealed that not all was quite as it seemed.

TK Maxx later revealed a brazen customer had "fraudulently" returned the cheap top with the tag of a more expensive brand they had bought in store.

A statement read: "Unfortunately from time to time a customer will return an item to our store fraudulently.

"Our store associates are trained to spot this, but occasionally a mistake occurs.

"It appears in this case that a Primark item was returned in place of a more expensive item and was put out for sale in error.

"As soon as this was brought to our attention by one of our customers, we located the item in store and removed it from sale."

TK Maxx has more than 350 branches in the UK and flogs last season's designer gear at a reduced price.
