Moore for us

CAPTAIN Tom Moore led a life of unblemished selflessness.

He would be ashamed of his daughter’s obscene greed.

The public-spirited World War Two veteran became a national hero during Covid by raising almost £40million for the NHS with a sponsored walk aged 99.

It earned him a knighthood, the love of millions and even a chart-topping hit.

But it was perhaps fortunate Sir Tom never lived to see Hannah Ingram-Moore and husband Colin plunder his philanthropy as a get-rich-quick scheme.

The pair sickeningly pocketed vast sums, cashing in on his memory and giving next to nothing to the charity they set up in his name, as a Charity Commission probe confirms.

Hannah paid herself a lavish salary and built a spa.

What an appalling end to the most uplifting story of that bleak Covid era.

If the Ingram-Moores have a shred of decency they will hand every last remaining Pound to the charity a duped public thought it was funding.

Armed farces

ONE day Russia threatens World War Three, the next our Government inflicts the most savage defence cuts in a generation. Seriously?

We were told Labour would decide nothing firm about forces’ funding until yet another strategic defence review reports next year.

Now Defence Secretary John Healey suddenly pre-empts that by scrapping five warships, 31 helicopters and a fleet of drones to save cash.

“Out of date” they may be, but replacements are years away.

And old kit is better than none, as Ukraine (and Russia) have discovered.

Labour claims to take defence seriously while being unwilling to find the funding.

Yet billions ARE blithely allocated to Ed Miliband’s Net Zero insanity and inflation-busting rises to unions.

Our defence must not be short-changed. Especially now.

Pig ignorant

WHATEVER the party publicly claims, the contempt many Labour MPs have for our farmers is blindingly obvious.

Some family farms now face ruinous inheritance tax bills.

Angela Rayner’s defence yesterday — that this will “fix public services” — is laughable.

And as one Labour MP carps: “They don’t vote for us anyway.”

A supportive pundit wants to do to farmers what “Thatcher did to the miners”.

These idiotic class warriors see rural folk as rich, Tory-voting, Brexit-backing toffs.

Let’s see if they still snigger when the public suffers for this callous betrayal via food price rises and even shortages.

As for the farmer-backing Lib Dems, why did they once ponder a similar sting?

Answer: Because they are a protest party of blatant opportunists without a single firm principle.
