Tory shadow ministers demand Rachel Reeves comes clean over ‘incredibly serious’ allegation she lied on her CV
TORY shadow ministers tonight demanded Rachel Reeves come clean following accusations the Chancellor lied on her CV.
It came as Downing Street refused to say Ms Reeves has followed ministerial integrity rules after her LinkedIn page was quietly edited last week.
The Chancellor’s claim that she worked as an economist at the Bank of Scotland between 2006 and 2009 was changed to state that she held a role in “retail banking” for Halifax.
When asked on Monday whether lying on a CV is a “breach of the ministerial code, Sir Keir Starmer’s spokesperson responded: “I think with regards to the Chancellor, the Prime Minister is very clear that the Chancellor has restored fiscal stability.
“This is someone who, on coming into office, looked under the bonnet and exposed a £22 billion black hole in the public finances and has been honest with the public.”
No10 also dodged questions over whether Ms Reeves has been “straight with the public” about her past employment.

The PM’s spokesperson said: “He is very clear that this is a Chancellor that has been straight with the public about the state of the public finances and what is necessary to restore financial stability – that is most important.”
In a stinging letter delivered last night, Shadow Paymaster General Richard Holden implored the Chancellor to directly respond to “incredibly serious” allegations surrounding her CV.
Mr Holden said: “As you know standards in public life are upheld by rigorous accountability and transparency – which is why I write to you seeking clarity.
“This is equally important as many businesses and working people already feel as if Labour had not been honest with them.”

“Her LinkedIn has been updated to reflect that.”
