But historian Darwin Porter claims he has evidence painting her as the main suspect in the slaying of her Mafioso Johnny Stompanato after she found him in bed with her 14-year-old daughter.

An inquest ruled that Turner's daughter, Cheryl Crane, killed the mobster after he "ran into" a kitchen knife as she was defending her mum at their Beverley Hills home.

The teenager was made a ward of the court in the wake of the stabbing and put into the custody of her grandmother after killing which was ruled as a lawful homicide.

Turner said she had been arguing with Stompanato, who threatened to 'cripple' her and kill Cheryl.

But in a new book, Lana Turner: Hearts and Diamonds Take All, Porter reveals some close to the star, including a detective, give a different version of events.

According to the Daily Mail, detective Fred Otash admitted rearranging the crime scene with Turner's attorney Jerry Geisler who the Hollywood star called before the cops.

He also claims the lawyer told her to let her daughter take the fall because as a minor she wouldn't face trial.

The book alleges Otash said: "I was the one who wiped the fingerprints off the knife in Lana’s bathroom sink. I was a naughty boy doing what I’m not supposed to do."

Friends of Turner have also allegedly claimed she privately confessed to the killing.

The book also alleges stories were rehearsed after the actress stabbed her mobster lover in the stomach.

Stompanato was allegedly making money from blackmail and had links to LA gangster Mickey Cohen.

The book will be out next month.
