Who is Matt Gaetz?

Matt Gaetz was born in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, on May 7, 1982.

He comes from a politically active family — his father, Don Gaetz, is a former state senator in Florida.

Matt graduated from Florida State University and later earned a law degree from the College of William & Mary.

He entered politics in 2010, when he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, before winning a seat in the US House of Representatives in 2016.

Throughout his tenure, he has been known for his far-right positions and close alignment with Donald Trump’s policies.

In 2021, Matt told Vanity Fair, “In a way, Trump was an inspiration for me because despite whatever they were saying about him — with foreign intelligence services, with the DOJ — he had a determination to say what he was gonna say and share his vision for the country.” 

Marriage

Matt has been married to Ginger Luckey since August 20, 2021.

The couple met at a fundraiser organized by Trump at Mar-a-Lago in March 2020.

Matt proposed to Ginger at the same venue in December 2020.

But before doing so he reportedly asked for Trump's permission, telling Vanity Fair, “You never want to upstage the big guy.”

According to Matt, after giving his blessings the president-elect said, "You two are the dynamic duo."

Trump sent over champagne to the happy couple after Ginger said yes.

The Florida congressman eloped to Southern California and married Ginger on Catalina Island.

Their wedding was attended by approximately 40 guests, including Ginger's brother, Palmer Luckey, the founder of Oculus VR.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Matt exclaimed, "I love my wife!" along with a photo of them together — he in a sports coat, she in a white dress.

Their relationship has been characterized by public support, particularly from Ginger, who has actively expressed her pride in her husband's political endeavors on social media.

After his nomination for Attorney General, she tweeted her enthusiasm.

“Attorney General will look great on you, my love,” she wrote.

Ginger's education & career

Ginger studied economics and accounting at the University of California, before taking courses at Harvard Business School Online.
