Mr Trump has claimed the real number could top 20million

The President-elect insisted he had no option but to get tough as unlawful entries through the Mexico border soared to as high as 300,000 a month.

The influx — under Joe Biden and defeated rival Kamala Harris — has pushed the number of undocumented immigrants to an estimated 11million.

Mr Trump has claimed the real number could top 20million.

In an interview with NBC, he said of his election pledge to launch the largest deportation campaign in American history: “It’s not a question of a price tag.

“Really, we have no choice.

“When people have killed and murdered, when drug lords have destroyed countries . . .

“Now they’re going to go back to those countries because they’re not staying here.

“There is no price tag.

“We have to make the border strong and powerful.”

But he insisted the country would still be open to legal migrants, saying: “I’m not somebody that says, ‘No, you can’t come in’.

“We want people to come in.”

Despite Democrats branding his plans racist, the Republican believes his views won him support from Asian and Latino voters.

He said: “They want borders.

“They like people coming in, but they have to come in with love for the country.

“They have to come in legally.”

Meanwhile, Mr Trump signed up campaign manager Susie Wiles to become the first female White House Chief of Staff when he takes office in January.

In his victory speech he dubbed her The Ice Maiden and yesterday said: “Susie is tough, smart, innovative.”

Ms Wiles, 67, previously worked for Ronald Reagan and ran Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ successful re-election campaign in 2022.
