Whi is Tim Walz?

The Democratic governor was born in West Point, Nebraska on April 6, 1964.

Tim Walz enlisted in the National Guard after high school before attending Chadron State College.

He became a teacher overseas before returning to the United States to serve in the National Guard.

Later in his career, he became a high school teacher and coach.

Meeting his wife Gwen

He met his Gwen while working as a teacher — the two taught together at Mankata West High School in Minnesota.

On their first date, Tim took Gwen to watch the dark comedy Falling Down starring Michael Douglas — they went to fast food chain Hardee's afterwards because it was the only place in town that wasn’t a bar.

Gwen said that during the date Tim leaned in for a kiss, and when she spurned his advances he declared his ambitious intentions.

In February 2019, she told the Minnesota Star Tribune her now-husband’s response to her rejection: “That’s fine, but you should know I’m going to marry you.”

During his tenure at Mankata West High School, Tim helped lead the school's football team to its first state championship.

Marriage

Tim and Gwen tied the knot on June 4, 1994.

They were both still working as teachers at the time of their marriage.

The couple moved back to Gwen's home state of Minnesota two years after their wedding, where they continued their careers in education.

Running for office

Tim retired from the National Guard in 2005 and decided to run for office.

He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006.

60-year-old served five terms before running for governor of his state.

He won the 2018 election and was re-elected in 2022.

Tim's children

Tim and Gwen are the parents of two children — a girl named Hope and a boy named Gus.

He and his wife have been open about how IVF has played a great role in their journey to parenthood.

Tim wrote on Facebook on February 25, 2024: "Gwen and I have two beautiful children because of reproductive health care like IVF.

"This issue is deeply personal to our family and so many others.

"Don’t let these guys get away with this by telling you they support IVF when their handpicked judges oppose it."

He also told the Star Tribune: "It's not by chance that we named our daughter Hope."

Their son, Gus, was born in 2006.

The proud father is often seen discussing and celebrating his children.

He posted a photo of him with his son in the car, stating he just passed his driver's test.

"Proud dad moment," he wrote in the caption.
