Heartbreaking tributes to ‘kindest’ mum, 69, ‘murdered at home in burglary gone wrong’ – as man in court

A friend said the news had 'broken the family to pieces'

HEARTBREAKING tributes have been paid to a kind mum who was allegedly murdered at home after a burglary went wrong.

Catherine Flynn, 69, was found in a house on Cefndy Road, Rhyl, in Wales, on October 24.

Catherine, who was known as Cathy to those close to her, was rushed to hospital where she tragically passed away shortly after.

Dean Mark Albert Mears, 33, from Kinmel Bay, has since been charged with murder and burglary with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He has been remanded in custody after appearing in court.

A GoFundMe page for Cathy paid tribute to the 69-year-old: "It is with great sadness that I'm reaching out to anyone that can help a really great friend of mine.

"This has absolutely turned this family upside down.

"Cathy was such a lovely woman she had the greatest smile and the absolute most kindest of hearts she would help anyone and everyone without a second thought.

"No one deserves what this poor lady went through.

"Natasha her husband liam and daughter tal were so so close to cathy, tasha was her mums carer and looked after her mum so dearly, so as you can imagine this has come as a huge shock and absolutely broken this family to pieces.

"I'm asking for everyone's help to support the family through such a horrific time.

"Rest Easy Cathy This Is Such A Distraught NEVER Did I Think We Would Ever Be Saying This Im So Sorry.."

North Wales Police have renewed an appeal for information, with an increased presence in the area today as officers speak to residents.

A NWP Denbighshire Coastal and Abergele statement said: "Detectives investigating the death of a 69-year-old woman from Rhyl are renewing an appeal for any information that can assist them.

"33-year-old Dean Mark Albert Mears from Kinmel Bay has been charged with murder and burglary with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

"Following the incident last Thursday evening, officers will once again be active in the Cefndy Road area this afternoon, talking to residents and anyone passing through in order to gain as much information as possible.

"Whilst you may see an increased police presence, there is no need for concern and we would like to thank the local community for their patience and support whilst we conduct these vital enquiries.

"Anyone with information can speak to an officer in the area today, or you can contact us via our live webchat or on 101."

Mears has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Mold Crown Court on Tuesday.
