Missing paraglider, 34, found & hospitalised with injuries after disappearing with green ‘smiley face’ wing

A MISSING paraglider has been found and rushed to hospital with injuries.

Matthew Thornton, 34, vanished close to the tourist hotspot Grasmere, in the Lake District, after setting off from a fell with a green smiley-faced wing.

Matthew, originally from Oxfordshire, was set to paraglide as far back to Grasmere as he could on Tuesday lunchtime.

But no one had heard from him since around 12.30pm after letting family and friends known he was attempting the fly.

Cops have now confirmed he has been found and taken to hospital with injuries.

It is not known was condition Matthew is in.

The force previously released an image of his turquoise paraglider which has a bright pink smiley face wearing sunglasses on it in a bid to help locate him.

Cumbria Police said: "Officers are keen to hear from anyone who suspects they may have seen Matthew since 12.30pm or anyone else who may have information which could assist."
