Knifeman ‘slashed throat’ of toddler, 2, and ‘stabbed girl, 8, before attacking woman as she tried to protect them’

A KNIFEMAN allegedly slashed the throat of a toddler and stabbed a girl before attacking a woman as she tried to protect them.

Kulvinder Ram, 48, is accused of attacking the children aged two and eight with a knife at their home in Dagenham, east London on Friday.

Today Barkingside Magistrates Court heard that the two-year-old boy suffered slash wounds to his throat.

The eight-year-old girl suffered a cut running from the corner of her mouth to her ear.

An adult woman also suffered knife injuries while trying to protect the two children, the court heard.

All three victims were treated in hospital for their stab wounds, which were not life-threatening.

Ram appeared in court today charged with three counts of attempted murder.

The suspect and three victims were known to each other, the court heard.

Dressed in a grey sweatshirt, he was assisted by a Punjabi interpreter in the dock and spoke only to confirm his name and address.

Ram did not indicate a plea and was remanded in custody without any bail application.

He will next appear at the on November 11 for a pre-trial preparation hearing.

Judge Moffatt told Ram: "These cases are too serious for this court to deal with."

She added: "For the time being, I’m sending your case to the Old Bailey.

"You will be produced there on November 11 for a pre-trial preparation hearing,

"You have given no explanation as to why these events occurred."
