Met Police poised to pay D-Day veteran Lord Bramall £100,000 over false paedophile accusations
Lord Bramall was questioned in April 2015 in connection with Operation Midland
POLICE are poised to pay D-Day veteran Lord Bramall £100,000 after he was falsely accused of being a paedophile.
Scotland Yard swooped on the 93-year-old’s home in connection with the bungled Operation Midland child sex abuse probe.
Lord Bramall was questioned in April 2015 before being told in January 2016 no action would be taken. Departing Met Police chief Bernard Hogan-Howe apologised to him five months ago for the time taken for officers to drop their investigation.
Midland was wound up last April with no charges brought. The Met was “keen” to settle with Lord Bramall who had instructed a QC.
A “letter of action” outlining his complaints went to cops.

A source said the two sides were nearing settlement. Any payment would have to be signed off by City Hall and come out of the policing budget.
Lord Bramall, an ex-Chief of the Defence Staff, is expected to give most to charity.
He said: “My wife died without me being cleared. It didn’t come into their consideration that my wife was dying.”
The Met said it would now be resolved “quickly and fairly”.
