Murder probe after ‘little angel’ toddler dies just weeks away from second birthday as police arrest three
A MURDER probe has been launched after the death of a toddler in Co Tyrone.
Tributes have been left outside the home of little "angel", Tavia Michella Ximenes Da Costa, who died suddenly on Sunday.
The body of Tavia, who was due to turn two-years-old next month, was discovered in the Windmill Court area of Dungannon, Co Tyrone on Sunday.
A man and two women have been arrested following the 23-month-old's death.
They all remain in police custody and are currently being quizzed.
In a statement this evening, Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Kelly said: "Police, along with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, responded to the report of the sudden death of a child in the Windmill Court area of the town on Sunday morning, 13 October.
“Sadly, Tavia, who was just weeks away from her second birthday, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Following the results of a post mortem examination, I can now confirm that I am treating her death as a murder.”
Detective Chief Inspector Kelly continued: “My thoughts, and sincere sympathy, are with little Tavia’s family members and loved ones whose worlds have been turned upside down.
“Three people, two women and one man, were arrested".

Flowers have been placed near the home where little Tavia's body was discovered.
One note left on a bunch of flowers for the little girl read: "Sleep tight little angel."
Another added: "Rest in peace baby girl."
SDLP Dungannon councillor Karol McQuade said the entire community is in shock following the death of a child in the area.
He said: "This is absolutely devastating news that has left everyone in Dungannon in a state of shock.
"For a child to lose its life is an absolute tragedy and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this death.
"It is hard to find the words when it comes to a situation like this."
Cllr McQuade added: "Police are investigating and I would urge the public to give them the time and space they need to carry out their investigation.
"The most important thing now is establishing what happened here and this is an incredibly sensitive situation.”
