Sara Sharif’s dad wrote ‘I killed my daughter’ on note next to body before telling 999 ‘she was naughty, I punished her’

SARA Sharif's dad wrote "I killed my daughter" on a note left next to his daughter's body before telling cops "I beat her too much".

Urfan Sharif, 42, is also heard saying in an eight-and-a-half minute 999 call that he "legally punished her" and was a "cruel father".

Jurors were also shown images of handwritten notes that were found next to Sara's body at her home in Woking, Surrey, in August last year.

The notes read: "It's me, Urfan Sharif who killed my daughter by beating.

"I swear to God it was not my intention to kill her but I lost it."

They added: "I'm running away because I'm scared."

The recording of the Sharif's call to police, said to have been made from Pakistan at 2.47am UK time, was also played to the Old Bailey today.

Jurors were told the police non-emergency 101 number had received the call two days after Sara died.

Sharif begins by asking the operator to take his down his home address, and is then told to take a deep breath and say what happened. 

He replies: "I cannot, I... I did legally punish my daughter and she died. I left the home in a panic. God she's [inaudible].

The operator says: "I need you to take a deep breath cos I cannot understand what you're saying, okay? Your daughter has died?"

He then says: "I killed my daughter. I killed my daughter."

Sharif then tells the operator to go to his address in Hammond Road in Woking, Surrey, where police later found Sara dead.

He told the operator he had left the property, but would come back, before confirming his name.

The operator tell him to slow down as Sharif says: "I'm going to hand over, hand over myself."

Asked again what happened and what led to his call, Sharif said: "I think she was naughty over the last, three four weeks and I was giving her punishment, but she... to sort her out."

Asked if she was breathing when he left the house, he added: "No, she wasn't.

"I tried to resuscitate her. I tried to, to give her CPR, everything but I fail, I left in a panic."

Sharif said it all happened around 36 hours before the call and said: "I'm a cruel father. I'm gonna come back."

The operator later says: "So where... where are you? I know you said you were driving, but can you see a road? Where are you right now?"

Urfan, who never says he had gone to Pakistan, replied: "Um, I, I cannot give more detail. I... I promise I'll come back. I'll, I'll find, I'll, I'll face the death sentence."

The operator said: "I need to know where you are."

Sharif claims the supposed confession was only made to protect the others, the court heard.

Sara's dad, stepmum Beinash Batool, 30, and uncle Faisal Malik, 28, are standing trial at the Old Bailey charged with murder.

They each deny murder and causing or allowing the death of a child between December 16, 2022, and August 9, 2023.

The trial, expected to last two months, continues.
