Crook who won £1million on Ant & Dec TV show stole from nurse while she was working night shift on intensive care unit
A CREEP who won £1million on an Ant and Dec gameshow stole from a nurse while she was working on the intensive care unit.
Nathan Hageman took Samita Gurung's handbag from her locker at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
He then met two accomplices and used her keys to steal her Ford Echo Sport from the hospital car park.
The 44-year-old, who scooped the prize on ITV show Red and Black in 2011, was given a 12-week prison sentence after he admitted taking a vehicle without the owner's permission and theft.
But Hageman has walked free as he has already spent the past six months in custody following his arrest.
It is the third time he has been locked up after he was jailed in 2014 for stalking a woman and in 2006 for attacking his ex.
Reading Crown Court was told Samita was working a night shift on April 22 when she was targeted by Hageman.
The thief sneaked into the staff locker room area of the intensive care area before making off with the bag and car.
In a victim impact statement, Samita spoke out the "nightmare" of discovering her belongings were missing.
She added: "As a nurse working in the NHS we only get so much to make ends meet. I couldn't afford to pay all my bills that month.
"After working hard as a nurse in the ICU I do get tired and all I needed that night was to go back home, shower, have food and get into a warm bed.
"I was also looking forward to the relaxing birthday week ahead of me after months of hard work - but it all got ruined."
Police launched an investigation and saw Hageman on CCTV entering the hospital at around 10pm.
After entering the locker room area, he then exited the hospital and met his co-accused in the car park.
Hageman was arrested in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, the following day but claimed he simply found the bag and took it with him.
He was sentenced alongside Justin Clift, who was handed 16 weeks in jail but was also released.
How millionaire squandered his winnings
AFTER scooping the eye-watering £1million in 2011, Hageman frittered the cash away on luxury items.
These included:
- BMW 3-Series (£25,000)
- 10-day all-inclusive holiday in Cuba (£1,900)
- Peugeot 207 (£18,000)
- Range Rover Supercharge (£30,000)
- Flat screen TVs (£700)
- Laptop (£550)
- Armani watches (£645)
Mr Recorder Broe said: "Your victim was a nurse performing a vital public service.
"She should be able to feel safe when doing so. I doubt that you gave her a thought. It is clear that you have no regard for the law."
Hageman was jailed for five years in 2006 - just five years before he won the show - for attacking his ex-partner.
