MPs must pass Article 50 Bill unamended if Britain is to make the best go of Brexit

It's time to listen to former leading lights of the Remain campaign, like Lord Rose and Karren Brady, who say they now just want the best outcome for the UK

MPs must respect the referendum result and pass the Article 50 Bill today without a single amendment.

Anything less could be catastrophic to the Government’s chances of securing a good Brexit deal.

The Bill is a simple starting pistol for negotiations. Yet, thanks to a coalition of overmighty Labour and Lib Dem peers, MPs who have already approved the 137-word exit document now have to vote on two potentially damaging amendments.

Approving the first of these — guaranteeing the rights of EU nationals in Britain — would threaten negotiations over the rights of Brits living in Europe.

Approving the second — a parliamentary vote on the final deal — would allow Brussels to fob Mrs May off with useless proposals, safe in the knowledge the

Commons would never accept them.

Both would fatally bind the PM’s hands in the talks.

MPs might be tempted to follow the advice of political dinosaurs such as Blair and Heseltine who are urging Europhiles to start the fightback against Brexit in Parliament today.

Instead they should listen to former leading lights of the Remain campaign Lord Rose and Karren Brady, who say they now just want the best outcome for Britain.

Which means giving Mrs May a clean Bill to start negotiations.

IT’S impossible to put a price on the morale of our brave troops fighting in far-flung corners of the globe.

Yet the MoD has determined that £1million is a big enough saving to warrant scrapping e-blueys — letters from family members to servicemen and women stationed on the front line.

A million quid is pocket change in a defence budget of over £35billion.

And certainly not worth removing the comfort and reassurance e-blueys offer British troops risking their lives abroad.

HOW much longer will the Government let fat cat energy firms get away with fleecing customers?

Today former Shadow Energy Secretary Caroline Flint adds her voice to the chorus of MPs and industry experts calling for a cap on the maximum rate charged by energy companies.

The Department for Business concedes that many Brits are “paying more than they need to” for power.

Yet successive inquiries have let the Big Six off the hook when it comes to automatically placing customers on the cheapest tariffs.
