"Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting," Trump wrote in a post on X.

"Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone.

"I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before."

Trump also thanked for unanimously approving more money for the Secret Service and improving standards.

"Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something. An attack on a former President is a Death Wish for the attacker!" he said.

Trump's campaign also released a statement about the threats.

"President Trump was briefed earlier today by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence regarding real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in an effort to destabilize and sow chaos in the United States," it said.

Intelligence officials identified Iranian threats have "heightened in the past few months," and US officials were working to protect Trump, it claimed.

The former president's post comes as the man who allegedly staked him out at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on September 15, has been charged with attempting to assassinate him.

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was denied bail at a court hearing on Monday, hours after prosecutors cited a letter where the suspect allegedly offered $150,000 to "finish the job" as evidence of why he should be kept locked up pending trial.

Routh's son, Oran, told the his father "hates" Trump but was not a violent person.

"That's crazy, I know my dad and love my dad, but that's nothing like him," Oran told the outlet shortly after learning about his father's arrest.

"He's not a violent person. He's a hard worker and a great dad.

"He's a great dude, a nice guy and has worked his whole f**king life."

For Trump, the September 15 incident was the second attempt on his life after being grazed by a bullet during a campaign stop in Butler, , on July 13.

The presidential candidate was delivering remarks to supporters when minutes into his speech, shots rang out, grazing Trump's right ear.

He said he felt a bullet ripping through his skin, "I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.

"Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!"

Alleged assassain Ryan Routh's letter

The Justice Department released a chilling letter from would-be assassin Ryan Wesley Routh about his plan to kill Donald Trump on Monday.

"Dear world," the note began.

"This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster.

"It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job.

"Everyone across the globe from the youngest to the oldest know that Trump is unfit to be anything, much less a U.S. president.

"US presidents must at bare minimum embody the moral fabric that is America, and be kind, caring and selfless and always stand for humanity.

"Trump fails to understand any of [that]," the letter concluded.
