Nokia 3310 demand off the chart as £40 remake breaks records during pre-registration

RECORD numbers of people have signed up to get their hands on the Nokia 3310.

Carphone Warehouse said the demand for the retro phone had been "astonishing" following its launch earlier this month.

They said that the new Nokia 3310 attracted ten times more interest than ANY flagship phone launched at tech conference Mobile World Congress.

The remake of the classic phone has sparked a lot of excitement nearly two decades after its first release.

But there were concerns it would not live up to the hype upon launch, with iPhone and Android lovers failing to put their money where their mouths are.

Andrew Wilson, Carphone Warehouses UK director of buying told the Telegraph: "There has been an astonishing groundswell of interest in the Nokia 3310 following the launch announcement of this re-imagined classic.

"Levels of pre-registrations at Carphone Warehouse are incredibly strong, proving that it's not all hype and that consumers really want to get their hands on one."

Which means we could see clashes on the shopfloor as Brits scramble to get their hands on one.

The original handset was a bestseller in the early 2000s.

The brand new device - slated to hit shelves in May - will look similar to the old model but with a colour screen.

Old favourites like Snake and a radio will also feature.

And to make sure its battery life lives up to its predecessor - which could run for up to a week without charging - it will only run a 2g data connection and have a low-res screen, stripping most of the power sucking features we've become accustomed to.
