Sky News presenter Dermot Murnaghan reveals bloodied and bruised face after he is knocked down in ‘hit-and-run’ in Kentish Town
The presenter shared a photograph of his bloodied face as he praised police for their help
SKY News presenter Dermot Murnaghan has revealed he was knocked down in a hit-and-run collision, sharing a photograph of his bloody and bruised face.
The veteran newsreader shared the distressing image of his face badly cut up, writing on Twitter: "This is why i haven't been on the air for 2 days."
The 58-year-old added that the incident was a "hit and run" in Kentish Town, north London, yesterday.
In the shocking tweet, the experienced newsreader then said that "police were fantastic" in handling the incident.
He said he was "left stunned in the road bleeding" after the crash.
He later added he was "more mentally injured than physically", saying: "Hit and runs are clearly an everyday occurrence. Luckily @metpoliceuk are after them".
The Sky News presenter is a keen cyclist, having previously kept a blog about his cycling.
It is not yet known if he was on his bike when he was knocked over.
His post was met with concern from followers, with one writing: "Ouch! Hope they catch the culprit and get well soon mate..."
Another added: "When the newsman becomes the news! Poor you. Hope you're on the mend soon."
A third said: "Oh my gosh, Dermot, I hope you feel better soon. Must have been a terrible shock xx".
Fellow cyclist and presenter Jeremy Vine reached out over social media, asking if he was OK, with Dermot saying: "Nothing broken. Apart from my helmet. More mentally injured than anything. You hear of such stupidity - but to be the victim!"
The presenter later joked about the crash, saying "plenty of suspects!" when a Tweet suggested that the culprit was someone who didn't like his Sky News show.
He added that Sky News Tonight was in "excellent hands", promising that normal service would be "resumed next week".
But he fired back at one person's claims that police only attended so quickly "because of who you are", saying: "I don't think they knew who I was when I was lying stunned in the road bleeding and got a call from the great guy who saw it."
He said that he had now bought two cameras for any future bike rides.
The details around the incident are not known.
Dermot has been hurt while cycling before, previously saying that he broke four ribs after being knocked off the bike by a pitbull.
He was recently allegedly caught cycling through a red light in London,
Murnaghan was snapped riding towards traffic lights in last year, with the presenter allegedly then riding through the red light.
The broadcaster, who has previously worked at the BBC and ITN, often uses Boris bikes to get around.
He has taken part in various cycling challenges before, including the tough Lands end to John O'Groats route in 2011.
