Tragedy as baby boy is found dead at home – with woman, 26, and man, 25, arrested for ‘murder’
TWO people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a baby boy was found dead at home.
The tot was confirmed dead at the scene after paramedics realised "nothing could be done to save him".
Emergency services discovered the tragic scene after rushing to Sherwin Road in Stoke-on-Trent on August 27.
A 26-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were questioned yesterday after being arrested on suspicion of murder.
The pair, both from Stoke-on-Trent, were originally arrested on suspicion of causing/allowing the death of a child and released on conditional bail as investigations continued.
Staffordshire Police confirmed the baby's family are being supported by specialist officers.
Detective Inspector Gina Pope of Staffordshire Police, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a distressing incident which will have shocked the local community.
"We are working to establish the circumstances around the baby's death.
"Speculation on social media would be extremely unhelpful and will cause unnecessary distress to those affected by this incident at this already very difficult time."
West Midlands Ambulance Service said "it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save" the tot.
A spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a medical emergency at a property on Sherwin Road at 8.52am on August 27. Two ambulances and two paramedic officers attended the scene.
"On arrival we discovered one patient, a baby boy. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
