Kanal 5 Television editor-in-chief Abdulkadir Ünal was suffering from flu and tiredness but pushed ahead with his interview of AK Party deputy chairman Mehdi Eker.

In the footage he is seen sipping water before suddenly crashing off his chair to the ground, alarming the politician and a fellow journalist.

An advert was shown while broadcasters rushed to his aid and called an ambulance, reports .

Afterwards Anadolu Publishers Association chairman Sinan Burhan told viewers: "This is the first time we have experienced something like this.

"We sent our friend to the hospital. It's probably a flu infection. He's tired too.

"He may have been faint for this reason.

"Do not worry viewers. Our friend is in the hospital, treatment is ongoing."

Eker is no stranger to the trouble flu can cause. During the bird flu epidemic of 2005 he told Turkish people that it was safe to eat cooked chicken - and then famously refused to eat some on television.

Last month hilarious footage captured the moment a man faints on a theme park ride while his girlfriend is in hysterics.

The pair, who appear to be from New Zealand, are about to ride a SkySwing – which hoists them high up in the air before letting them swing at face-stretching speed.
