AT least three people have been killed including two children after two passenger trains ploughed into each other in Egypt's Nile Delta.
Another 49 were injured in the horror crash in Zagazig, capital of Sharqiya, the country's railway authority said in a statement.
Video from the site of the crash showed a train car crumpled by the impact, surrounded by crowds as men tried to lift the injured through the windows of a passenger car.
Five of those wounded in the tragic crash are in an unstable condition and "rescue operations are ongoing", the country's health ministry said.
Train derailments and crashes are common in the country, where an aging railway system has also been plagued by mismanagement.
In recent years, the government announced initiatives to improve its railways.

Shocking pictures showed one of the wrecked carriages suspended almost vertically in mid-air as worried onlookers gather nearby.

Rescue workers and disaster teams rushed to the scene after the Kanchanjunga Express was hit by a goods train from behind.
The crash happened in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal.
Around 60 people were hurt in the horrific crash, news reports, but at least 25 of them did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
They have been rushed to a nearby hospital as officials continued the rescue operation, reported.
Several coaches on the express train were reportedly derailed on impact.
The death toll remained relatively low after the collision because the rear of the passenger train was made up of a cargo van and guards coach.
