Bungling council workers paint spelling mistake on road and are corrected by passing teachers
Rain blamed for blunder over word disabled on Swansea parking bay
BUNGLING council workers made a spelling mistake on road markings - when they wrongly spelled the word DISABLED.
The blue-badge bay blunder meant the word was wrongly spelled as 'disablel' - and was spotted by a group of teachers.
Unable to get their red pens out and correct it themselves, the teachers told Swansea City Council of the error.
One of the teachers said: "It was a bit of a shock, you would think if they can't spell they would double check their work or check on their phone.
"I just think it's careless.
"You have to check a word before you send it to a teacher - it makes you laugh."
Swansea council blamed the mistake on contractors they'd asked to carry out the work - and say they want it fixed as quickly as possible.
A spokesman said: "We have notified the contractor that completed this work about the error and they have confirmed it will be corrected immediately."
And a spokesman for Nolan Road Marking - who carried out the work - blamed it on bad weather.
He said: "When we were laying the works it was raining and it was not adhering to the floor."
